Museums

Dubrovnik is the administrative center of Dubrovnik-Neretva County, with 122,000 residents, from the Montenegro border in the south to the island of Korčula in the northwest. For this reason a number of museums have been established within the city limits:

  • Dubrovnik Museum, in the Rector's Palace has over 15,000 historical and cultural objects on display.
  • Rupe Ethnographic Museum, in the southwest corner of the old town, was opened in a granary in 1991.
  • Franciscan Monastery Museum holds the pharmacological collection as well as jewelry, paintings and embroidery works by local artists.
  • Dominican Monastery Museum: medieval paintings, sculpture, jewelry, old manuscripts.
  • Cathedral Treasury: relics from St. Blaise, paintings and other art works.
