Summer Festivals

In the summer of 1933 a performance of Ivan Gundulić's pastoral Dubravka (1628) was performed outside the Rector's Palace, thus paving the way to the Dubrovnik Summer Festival. Officially inaugurated in 1950, the festival has achieved world renown. Actors from all over the world are inspired by the architectural beauty and enjoy greater proximity to the audience as they perform renaissance and classical works.

The festival, held annually from July 10 to August 25, includes works of theater, dance, music, film and other live entertainment at numerous venues in and outside the town walls, as well as on the island of Lokrum.
